Tier List

A desrt Weapons Tier List

Weapons gate how deep you loot—and what engines you bring home. This tier list ranks hammer, knife, shotgun, and related ruin finds for solo and group desert survival.

Combat gear in A desrt is loot with a job: clear zombies so you can drag Injection or EngineD blocks back to a waiting Car. DarkCodes starts everyone with a hammer—C tier by necessity, not because it fails forever. Knives from mid ruins climb to B or A tier for efficient silent clears. Shotguns from deep structures hit A or S tier when rooms stack enemies and you need burst before sprinting to E-enter the driver seat. Weapons tier separately from [Engine Tier List](/tier-list/engines/) because a shotgun does not help if you forgot radiator water and stall on the highway anyway.

S tier — Shotgun (ruin acquired)

Shotguns earn S tier for groups clearing high-value ruins that spawn rare engines and Turbine parts. Burst damage compensates for melee risk when two zombies block a stairwell. Noise is the tax—plan exit routes and R-key starts before pulling the trigger. Solo players can tier shotgun A instead of S if ammo logistics or stamina limits deep commits. Pair with [Zombie Survival](/guides/zombie-survival/) spacing and [Looting](/guides/looting/) route maps.

A tier — Knife

Knives upgrade swing speed over hammers without shotgun noise. Ideal for mid-tier ruins where you farm tools and Injection components. Knives land A tier because they balance risk and sustain—less overkill than shotguns, faster than hammers. Keep one on the passenger floor when driving [Van](/vehicles/van/) loot loops so the navigator can peel off for side rooms. Still loses to shotguns when spawn density spikes.

C tier — Starter hammer

Hammer is C tier: functional for garage zombies and first house clears, replace ASAP. It teaches LMB timing without ammo stress documented on [Weapons reference](/items/weapons/). Stash spare hammers at base so death runs recover quickly. Never enter EngineD-tier ruins hammer-only unless you enjoy walking home without an engine.

Weapon progression route

  1. Learn combat with hammer while building first Car from [Fix Car guide](/guides/fix-car/).
  2. Upgrade to knife when mid ruins appear on your route.
  3. Add shotgun when farming Injection or EngineD spawn buildings.
  4. Rotate weapons back to base storage—do not bury shotguns under bigcans.

Weapons enable engine tiers, not the reverse. Time ruin dives when your vehicle tier supports escape speed—Injection Car at 180 km/h outruns mistakes better than a VAZ at 150 km/h. Stock fluids from [Fuel & Fluids](/items/fuel-fluids/) before weapon upgrades because combat wins mean nothing if the radiator dies ten kilometers out. Report new ruin weapons on Discord so this list updates when DarkCodes adds content.

Frequently Asked Questions

What tier is the starter hammer?
C tier. Reliable for early game only—replace with knife or shotgun from ruins when possible.
Is shotgun always S tier?
S tier for coordinated ruin farming with ammo and escape plans. Solo players may rate it A tier due to noise and logistics.
Where do knives rank versus hammers?
Knives are A tier midgame weapons with faster attacks. Hammers remain C tier starter tools.
Do weapons affect engine tier access?
Indirectly. Better weapons let you clear deeper ruins where rare and very rare engines spawn.
What should I carry on driving loot loops?
Best available melee plus shotgun if you plan deep rooms. Keep weapons accessible near driver seat E exit.
